The Master judo delegation from Patagones delivered a standout performance at the Open de la Confluencia in Neuquén, securing a combined seven medals across multiple categories against a field of approximately 200 competitors from across Argentina, according to local sports reporting.
Held on Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, the regional tournament served as a crucial proving ground for athletes aged 30 and older. Operating with a compact delegation of five athletes, Patagones converted its entries into three gold medals and four bronze medals, highlighting the technical proficiency and depth of its veteran roster in top-tier competition.
Gold and Bronze Finishes at the Neuquén Open
Daiana Camargo added to the gold tally by capturing first place in the VNF1 63 kg category, alongside a bronze medal in the M3 63 kg division. Daniel Lara rounded out the gold-medal performances by winning the VNM2 90 kg bracket.
Additional podium finishes came from Alejandro Quintero, who earned a bronze medal in the VNM2 100 kg category, and Juan Mansilla, who secured a pair of bronze medals in both the VNM1 73 kg and M3 73 kg divisions.
Upcoming National and International Schedule
Following the successful outing in Neuquén, the Patagones Master judo squad faces a demanding calendar of regional and international events, according to sports reports. The team’s immediate focus turns to the upcoming National Championship scheduled for October in the province of Misiones, with longer-term preparations already underway for next year’s South American tournament.
At the same time, developmental and youth squads across the broader Patagones judo program maintain an active preparation schedule. Athletes are readying for a training camp with the National Selection in the J13 categories ahead of the Panamerican Championship in Cancún. Additional commitments on the horizon include the upcoming provincial and national multi-sport showcases, featuring the Juegos Bonaerenses and Juegos Evita in Mar del Plata, the Juegos de la Araucanía in Valdivia, Chile, and the Nacional Clausura tournament in San Juan.
