After spending the previous campaign embedded with San Antonio in the United States—where his duties included analyzing player performances for athletes such as star center Victor Wembanyama—Azalbert has shifted his analytical focus to European rugby, working directly alongside manager Yannick Bru and supporting backline standouts like Louis Bielle-Biarrey.
Early Impact on Squad Workloads
Speaking to regional media outlet Sud-Ouest, Bru expressed immediate satisfaction with the early weeks of collaboration, noting that the former NBA analyst has already introduced measurable improvements to physical management within the squad. “On the management of training load, he brings us a knowledge of managing big bodies and that is going to be a plus, I have no doubt, on the management of workload,” Bru told the publication. The club manager added that the team has already been able to measure “small marginal gains” delivered by the new staff member.

His move to the NBA materialized after he answered a job listing posted on LinkedIn—an opportunity he admitted he initially viewed as a long shot, having previously remarked that he would not have bet on someone coming straight from Dax. That American adventure ultimately culminated in a deep postseason run that saw the San Antonio Spurs reach the NBA Finals in June.
