At the CSI2* de Gijón, Dutch rider Sanne Thijssen claimed victory in the Trofeo Oquendo 1.45-meter class aboard Cupcake Z, navigating both the initial round and the winning round without a single fault to stop the clock at 49.73 seconds, according to competition reports. The tense afternoon competition at Las Mestas featured a strong Spanish showing, anchored by the Ortiz Agüera siblings who secured both second and third places.
Las Mestas Afternoon Sun and the Ortiz Agüera Podium Finish
Earlier weather conditions saw rain give way to sunshine over Las Mestas, creating improved footing for the 55 competing combinations. Out of the starting field, the top fourteen riders from the first phase advanced to the decisive winning round in the 1.45-meter class. Castora Ortiz Agüera, riding Robinson, advanced after a clear initial round in 73.18 seconds.
Her brother, Luis Ortiz Agüera, matched the clean jumping form aboard A.N. Barney. After posting a fault-free first round in 74.80 seconds, Luis duplicated the zero score in the jump-off with a time of 51.49 seconds, securing third place. Thijssen proved to be the sole competitor capable of besting the siblings’ times, locking in the win with her 49.73-second clear round on Cupcake Z.
