Angel Reese Shatters WNBA Single-Game Rebounding Record With 24-Year-Old Mark Falling
Reese surpassed the previous single-game mark of 24 rebounds, which had been set by Chamique Holdsclaw for Washington on May 23, 2003. Although Reese struggled from the field by shooting 4 of 14, she utilized her misses to control the glass, pulling down eight offensive rebounds and 18 defensive boards to seal the win, according to AP News.
Last time I was here, I didn’t miss any shots. Tonight I couldn’t hit (anything) so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side,
Reese said during the postgame show, as reported by Nypost. I just want to be there for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win.
Double-Record Night Extends Single-Season Rebounding History
The historic performance yielded a second major milestone for the second-year Dream star. By grabbing her 26th rebound, Reese pushed her season total to 458 total rebounds, surpassing the single-season league record of 451 previously set by Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson in 2024, according to USA Today.

Reese achieved the new single-season benchmark in just 37 games, leaving Atlanta with six regular-season contests remaining to pad her total. In addition to her historic rebounding numbers, Reese secured her WNBA-leading 27th double-double of the season by scoring a basket with 13.9 seconds remaining to finish the night with 11 points, three assists, and three steals in 38 minutes on the floor.
Teammates and coaches quickly lauded the forward’s relentless effort on the court. That’s a talent,
Dream guard Allisha Gray said, according to Sportingnews. I’m just in awe watching her rebound.
Dream Complete Sweep of West Coast Road Trip to Strengthen Standings
Monday’s victory capped an undefeated four-game West Coast road trip for Atlanta, improving the team’s record to 25-13 and keeping them atop the Eastern Conference. The Dream already secured a playoff berth ahead of the final stretch of the regular season.
Alongside Reese’s record-setting night, Allisha Gray led Atlanta with 20 points, Rhyne Howard added 18 points to surpass 3,000 career points, and Naz Hillmon contributed 12 points. Gray also established a new Atlanta franchise record for field goals in a season with 247. For Los Angeles, Nneka Ogwumike put up 27 points and 16 rebounds, while Dearica Hamby and Cameron Brink each scored 15 points as the Sparks fell to 13-25.
Reflecting on her rapid ascent and record-breaking mentality, Reese pointed to the guidance of veteran players and coaching staff. She specifically credited WNBA all-time leading rebounder Tina Charles for giving her key advice on positioning around the basket, and praised Atlanta head coach Karl Smesko for his daily work on her shooting and consistency.
