Rather than constructing a temporary venue, local officials integrated the San Simone complex into a broader financial and operational sustainability plan. Records outline a permanent infrastructure meant to serve provincial and regional athletes year-round. It will host regular regional, national, and international competitions in coordination with the regional federation and national and international federations.
Engineering Specifications and Tournament Capacity
Project specifications detail a facility capable of accommodating approximately 400 people concurrently under standard operations, balancing spectators, athletes, and staff. During major tournaments such as the 2026 Games, the venue capacity expands to roughly 1,000 attendees through the deployment of modular, removable seating. The competitive field is designed to host up to 128 archers simultaneously across rotating shifts. Meanwhile, judges and media personnel operate from a dedicated, practical rooftop terrace accessible via an external staircase equipped with shade structures and furnishings.
Expanding Tourism and Cycling Road Routes
Beyond its technical specifications, the local government intends to use the San Simone venue as a primary lever for regional tourism and economic promotion. More than 4,000 athletes from 26 participating nations will descend upon the Taranto area for the Games scheduled between August 21 and September 3, 2026. Crispiano’s footprint will extend far beyond the archery ranges. Planners confirmed that the town will also feature along the course for the men’s and women’s cycling competitions on August 24, maximizing international visibility for the area known as the town of the Hundred Masserie.
