The promotion comes as Bryan Woo rests right shoulder discomfort, altering the Mariners’ rotation plans down the stretch.
Kade Anderson Arrives in Seattle for MLB Debut Against the Cubs
The left-handed pitching phenom arrived at T-Mobile Park on Friday afternoon, ready for his active roster addition on Saturday and an eagerly anticipated start against the Chicago Cubs at 4:15 p.m. PT on FOX. Selected in the first round of the 2025 Draft, Anderson bypassed Triple-A entirely after dominating at Double-A this year.
His minor-league resume features a 1.06 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP over 18 starts. He has been almost unhittable, posting 135 strikeouts and allowing just 47 hits across 93 1/3 innings, while issuing only 10 walks.
Dan Wilson, Mariners manager
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said, I think he could definitely create a different continuity, a different mix and create some spark.
The Mariners had long anticipated a 2026 arrival for the left-handed face of the future.
Bryan Woo Shoulder Discomfort Triggers Rotation Shift
Anderson’s swift promotion was accelerated by the status of Bryan Woo, who was pushed back from this weekend’s series altogether as he continues to nurse his right shoulder. Woo experienced discomfort in the area during his most recent start—last Sunday’s win in Houston—and the club will take the next two days to determine when he’ll be reinstalled.
The Mariners do not anticipate that Woo will necessitate a stint on the injured list, and he has not undergone imaging. Whether he’s back during their next series ahead the Phillies, from Monday through Wednesday, or on Seattle’s upcoming road trip through Toronto then Boston, beginning Friday, is still TBD. Dan Wilson stated, We expect him, at the most, to skip his next start.

Bryce Miller will remain on turn to start Sunday’s series finale. The Mariners anticipate going to a six-man rotation for the immediate future, pending Woo’s status, but will assess as they move forward. Dan Wilson noted, We'll continue to talk about that and see what will make the most sense for us going forward. And once I think once we get Bryan slotted in, we'll be able to figure out exactly how we're going to proceed from there.
They’ve long preferred a standard five-man, which was part of why they were comfortable dealing Luis Castillo to the White Sox ahead of the Trade Deadline, but they’ve also had multiple points this summer where a few arms necessitated extra rest, including Miller, George Kirby and now Woo.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Impacts and Top Prospect Calls
Anderson’s arrival makes him an appealing waiver wire option heading into Week 23, and with his strikeout upside, he should be considered as a priority add in all formats while currently 39% rostered in Yahoo! formats.

Beyond Seattle’s new left-hander, George Lombard Jr. is listed as a 2B/3B/SS who is 45% rostered in Yahoo leagues. Through 14 games, he is hitting .292 with two home runs and a .352 OBP, and he is locked into the starting shortstop job while also eligible at second and third base on Yahoo. (Alternatively noted in other roster updates as George Lombard, SS, Yankees at 26%, where the Yankees sent Anthony Volpe down after Monday’s game and called Lombard up to make the stretch run, having hit 12 homers and 14 steals with a 16.8% walk rate in 78 games across Double-A and Triple-A as a 21-year-old).
Alejandro Kirk, C, Toronto Blue Jays (45% rostered) has been limited to 53 games because of injury, so he’s relatively fresh at this point, hitting 31-for-83 (.373) with a 1.016 OPS over his last 23 games during the dog days of August.
Additionally, Luis Robert Jr., OF, NYM (37% rostered) is hitting .267/.286/.467 in 14 games in August with three home runs and seven RBI, and had quite a homecoming to Chicago with three home runs between two games on Friday and Saturday.
