The championship tournament ran from August 20 to August 24, capping a dramatic week for the Quebec squad that began with logistical hurdles before a single pitch was thrown.
Travel Hurdles Precede Regina Tournament Run
Before facing New Brunswick for the national crown, the Quebec delegation faced a near-disaster on the travel front. According to league records shared by Robert Legault of the Ligue de baseball majeur du Québec (LBMQ), the team’s participation in the tournament was thrown into jeopardy on Tuesday, August 19. An unexpected cancellation of their Montreal-to-Toronto flight threatened to block the formation from reaching Saskatchewan in time for the opening games.
Despite the disruption, the roster arrived and battled through the preliminary rounds to reach the gold medal match. The traveling party notably included pitcher Jonathan Paquet of the Unicanvas de Thetford. Paquet marked his third tournament appearance with the Quebec senior side, which entered the 2025 competition seeking a third national title.
New Brunswick Controls the Championship Final
In the title game, New Brunswick seized control early and never relinquished the lead. The eventual national champions staked themselves to a comfortable cushion by jumping out to a three-run advantage in the first inning, then adding another three runs in the third frame.
Quebec starting pitcher Conor Angel struggled out of the gate, issuing three walks and conceding three earned runs early in the contest before manager adjustments forced a change on the mound, with Félix Côté stepping into relief. New Brunswick’s early offense featured consecutive run-scoring singles in the opening frame from Josh Myers and Cole MacLaren.
The damage continued in the third inning when Nick MacPhail launched a solo home run, followed shortly by a two-run single from Simon Dubois. Myers capped off the victorian offensive output with a two-run home run of his own in the sixth inning.
Late Quebec Response Halts Shutout Bid
Quebec managed to break through against New Brunswick starting pitcher Jordan Stevenson in the final frame. In the top of the seventh inning, Josué Peley delivered a run-scoring single that allowed teammate Raphaël Gladu to cross the plate, preventing a tournament-ending shutout.
That lone run was all Stevenson surrendered. The New Brunswick hurler went the distance, tossing a complete game while holding the Quebec offense to just three hits over seven innings to secure the national title.
Tournament Context and Next Steps
While falling short of a third straight gold medal, Équipe Québec returns home with a hard-earned silver medal following a resilient week in western Canada.
