Mika Godts chose to sign with Paris Saint-Germain over competing offers from FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, according to the player’s agent, Niels De Jonck. The 21-year-old winger moved to the French capital from Ajax for a transfer fee of approximately €55 million, committing to a sporting project that heavily involved manager Luis Enrique.
Before finalizing his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Godts drew strong interest from multiple European powerhouses. In an interview with De Telegraaf, De Jonck confirmed that both Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona closely tracked the Belgian international. However, Paris Saint-Germain stood out due to a long-standing interest that dated back several years and an aggressive, personal approach when the club decided to make its move.

Luis Enrique played a central role in swaying the young attacker’s decision. According to his representative, the initial discussions between the Spanish manager and the player were warm, engaging, and lighthearted. During these talks, Luis Enrique detailed his exact expectations for Godts on the pitch, highlighting the player’s tactical versatility, his ability to exploit open spaces, and the unpredictability he could bring to the Parisian attack.
“Paris made Mika understand that their interest was very serious,” De Jonck said. “They presented a clear sporting project, and important people within the club invested themselves personally.”

Despite the significant €55 million investment made by the club, club management and coaching staff have made it clear that the former Ajax player faces a steep climb to secure regular minutes. Paris Saint-Germain boasts a heavily crowded and competitive offensive unit, meaning Godts will have to earn his place under Luis Enrique.
“He starts from zero there,” De Jonck noted regarding the internal competition at the club. “Mika will have to win his starting spot. In a club like PSG, nothing is free. Not even for a transfer of around 55 million euros.”
That high-stakes environment ultimately did not deter the forward. Upon finalizing his move, Godts shared his enthusiasm for joining the Ligue 1 champions through social media channels. “A day I will never forget,” Godts posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I am proud and grateful to join PSG and to be part of this great family. Wearing this jersey is an honor, and I will give everything to live up to these colors. Here is Paris.”
