The inaugural Baseball Champions League Europe Final Four opens on Sept. 26–27 at Brno City Baseball Stadium, featuring host club Draci Brno, Curaçao Neptunus, Parma 1949, and Tenerife Marlins, according to tournament schedules published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation.
Brno Prepares to Crown Europe’s First BCL Champion
Four of the continent’s top baseball clubs arrive in the Czech Republic this weekend to battle for the first-ever Baseball Champions League Europe title. Organized by the World Baseball Softball Confederation, the tournament brings together champions and top finishers from national leagues across the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and the host nation. The competition marks a major shift in European club baseball, replacing the historic European Champions Cup that ran from 1963 to 2023.
WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari explained the vision behind the international tournament concept, noting that it brings teams from around the world together to represent their club, city, and fans on a global stage. The European iteration follows similar international showcases in the Americas, where clubs from the United States, Mexico, and Taiwan have competed in recent years.
Group Stage Pathways to the Final Four
The journey to Brno began in May with group-stage tournaments held in Regensburg, Germany, and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Parma 1949 and Curaçao Neptunus secured their places in the championship weekend by winning their respective groups. Meanwhile, Draci Brno and Tenerife Marlins earned their semifinal berths by finishing second in pool play.
Italian powerhouse Parma 1949 swept group play with a 3-0 record, showcasing disciplined hitting and aggressive base running with a deep pitching staff led by Juan Carlos Infante Junior. In the Netherlands, Curaçao Neptunus topped the other bracket behind a high-powered roster that led all Final Four contenders with a .337 team batting average during the opening round, anchored by veteran slugger Dwayne Kemp.
Host Draci Brno and Tenerife Marlins Round Out the Field
Host club Draci Brno enters the weekend backed by a rich domestic history, having secured 26 Czech championships. Playing on their home turf at YD Baseball Aréna, the Czech squad posted a .317 team batting average in the group stage. Martin Pernička delivered one of the opening round’s defining moments with a clutch two-run home run against Guggenberger Legionäre to seal their advancement.
Spain’s Tenerife Marlins completed the four-team field by relying on deep offensive production and sharp defensive infield play. The Spanish champions hit .314 during group play, featuring key power contributions from Lesther Galván and a memorable home run by Venezuelan outfielder Yancarlo Franco.
