Limbaži has officially claimed the top stop of the Latvian Youth X Games Torch Tour. Representatives of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) awarded the distinction following a meeting with local municipal leadership and regional sports representatives.
Commemorative Medals Presented
During the visit, LOK President Raimonds Lazdiņš presented special commemorative medals to Limbaži municipal leaders. The gesture marked the community’s efforts and success during the statewide torch relay.
The torch’s initial launch took place on May 4 in Ventspils.
Grassroots Community Engagement
Municipal officials reported that the relay’s success in the area was driven by a collaborative effort. Local government institutions, municipal employees, and everyday residents all played a role.
Limbažu novada domes priekšsēdētāja Sigita Upmale emphasized a key factor.
Community engagement was central to hosting the tour effectively without relying on dedicated advertising budgets.
Digital Reach and Athletic Standings
Organizers reported strong numbers from the nationwide route. The torch tour accumulated roughly five million views on digital and public platforms.
Beyond the relay itself, regional leaders noted strong athletic performance. Limbaži athletes secured a seventh-place finish in the overall medal standings at the Latvian Youth X Games, where a total of 3,665 athletes competed.
The 2028 Torch Tour Route
Looking ahead, LOK representatives announced plans for the next iteration of the youth games. The torch relay is scheduled to commence on May 4, 2028, directly in Limbaži.
Meanwhile, the upcoming Youth Games tournament itself is scheduled to take place in Jūrmala.
International Sports and Tourism Initiative
In addition to local scheduling announcements, LOK officials extended an invitation for the Limbaži region to participate in a joint story involving the Baltic states and Ukraine.

The project is set ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Its goal is to promote the region’s sports infrastructure and tourism opportunities on an international scale.
