Born on April 12, 2010, the Westphalian gelding was famously dubbed an “ugly duckling” by breeder Wolfgang Kipp due to an unremarkable early physical appearance, before exceptional jumping ability elevated him to the upper echelon of international equestrian sport.

The victory in London marks the fourth Global Champions Tour Grand Prix win of Checker 47’s career. According to tour records, the result places Kukuk and Checker 47 among an exclusive group of six pairings to win the same circuit leg in consecutive years. Previous back-to-back winners include Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum with Shutterfly in Arezzo, Richard Spooner with Cristallo in Monaco, Edwina Tops-Alexander with Itot du Chateau in Cannes, Abdel Said with Bonne Amie in Doha, and Katrin Eckermann with Cala Mandia in Miami.
