The Technical Implementation of Invisible Watermarks
To comply with the European Union mandates, major AI developers have rolled out distinct technical solutions tailored to different media formats. Anthropic announced that its Claude models integrate an invisible watermark directly into generated text. According to the company, this marker remains embedded within the prose without altering its visible appearance, allowing the attribution data to survive standard copy-and-paste actions as paragraphs move across platforms.
For non-text media, developers rely heavily on the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) open standard.
