Nguyễn Thùy Linh enters the 2026 China Open as Vietnam’s sole representative in the women’s singles draw, facing a demanding test on the BWF World Tour Super 1,000 circuit that features the world’s top 20 players, according to reports from La Động.
The tournament runs from July 21 to July 26, 2026. Thùy Linh arrived in China on July 19 and began court familiarity training on July 20, preparing for an opening match against Japan’s Hina Akechi.
Tournament Context and Draw Challenges
According to La Động, Thùy Linh currently holds the No. 26 spot in the BWF world rankings. Her first-round opponent, Hina Akechi, stands at No. 22 globally. Because the China Open carries a prestigious Super 1,000 classification, the competitive field draws every competitor from the upper echelon of the world rankings.
The tournament bracket places Thùy Linh in the same competitive quarter as South Korea’s An Se Young, the reigning world No. 1 and top seed.
Preparation and Coaching Support
To prepare for the high-tier event, Thùy Linh spent over a month away from international competition. La Động reports that she completed a training camp in Thailand before traveling directly to China.

On-site professional guidance in China is being led by Ngô Trung Dũng, the head coach of the Vietnamese national badminton team. The extended training block is designed to address physical conditioning and fine-tune technical execution against elite defensive players.
Rankings Goals and Upcoming Schedule
The primary objective for Thùy Linh during this stretch of the season is accumulating ranking points to break back into the BWF top 20. With main draw action commencing on July 21, her immediate focus rests entirely on executing her game plan against Akechi in the opening round.
