Former Spain international Xavi Hernández has been appointed as the new head coach of the Netherlands national team, signing a contract with the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) that runs until 2030. The 46-year-old manager succeeds Ronald Koeman as the permanent Bondscoach, taking charge of the Oranje ahead of upcoming international competition.

The appointment marks the second time in Xavi’s managerial career that he has directly succeeded Ronald Koeman. History repeated itself when the KNVB announced the hire, echoing the events of November 2021 when Xavi stepped into the managerial hot seat at FC Barcelona immediately following Koeman’s departure from the Catalan club. Xavi managed Barcelona until 2024 before eventually being succeeded by Hansi Flick.
Prior to his stint at Camp Nou, Xavi managed Qatari side Al-Sadd from 2019 to 2021. During his time in Doha, he secured the domestic league and cup double in 2021, alongside a Qatar Cup victory in 2020 and a Sheikh Jassim Cup win in 2019. In Spain, he guided Barcelona to the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup during the 2022–23 campaign.
