IPD National Sports Games 2026: 18 Sports Disciplines and Schedule Revealed

The Instituto Peruano del Deporte (IPD) has officially launched the 2026 National Sports Games, marking the start of the country’s primary grassroots tournament designed to identify and cultivate high-performance athletic talent. According to official reports, the provincial stage kicked off in Lima Provincias, where local competitions have already determined the first regional qualifiers across multiple sports disciplines.

Cañete Crowns Its Volleyball Champion

In Cañete, the provincial volleyball tournament concluded after matches held on June 13 and June 20 at the Coliseo Cerrado de Cañete, as reported by miamigoldeportes.com. Out of eight participating local clubs, the Academia de Formación Deportiva Wilfredo Malásquez secured the championship title. The squad advanced to the regional phase after defeating the Academia de Vóley Talentos Guerreros in the final.

According to tournament organizers, similar competitions for volleyball, football, and basketball will soon begin in Huaura, Barranca, and Huaral.

Regional Qualifiers Across Lima Provincias

Additional provincial tournaments have already established preliminary winners throughout the area, according to coverage from ovacion.pe. In Huaral, the Club Trébol captured the volleyball championship, leaving the Club Semilleros Huaral with the subchampionship. Meanwhile, in Huaura, the Club Señor del Mar earned the top spot by overcoming the Club Manzanares in the final match.

Basketball competitions are also underway at the Coliseo Cerrado del IPD in Santa María, determining additional slots for the upcoming regional bracket. All regional qualifiers will converge in Huacho for the Lima Provincias final phase, scheduled for July 11 and 12 at the Coliseo Cerrado de Santa María, with the broader regional phase extending through the end of July.

Nationwide Scope and Disciplines

The 2026 edition of the IPD National Sports Games involves more than 20,000 athletes aged 14 to 21, operating in coordination with local governments and regional sports councils (CRD). The tournament features 18 sports disciplines divided into 11 official events—including athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, judo, chess, table tennis, taekwondo, boxing, weightlifting, and parasports—along with 7 invitational disciplines that do not contribute to the overall medal tally, such as pickleball, skateboarding, and breakdance.

Road to the National Stage

Following the conclusion of regional phases in late July, the tournament will advance to its ultimate test. The National Stage is scheduled to take place from September 18 to September 25 across various venues in Lima Metropolitana. Regional champions will compete nationally, offering National Sports Federations a direct pipeline to identify and recruit promising young athletes into high-performance training pipelines.
