The Badminton & Croquet Club Lecco secured a total of eight medals at the Grand Prix of Malles, according to regional reports. Six club athletes competed in the tournament held at the gymnasium of the Scuola Claudia Von Medici in Malles Venosta, Italy.
Cattaneo Brothers Claim Gold in Hard-Fought Doubles Finals
Brothers Alex and Mattia Cattaneo led the Lecco delegation by capturing two gold medals in their respective doubles categories, as reported by local sports coverages. Alex teamed up with Jakob Stauder of Uberetsch to contest the Under-13 Boys’ Doubles final. After dropping the opening set, the pair mounted a comeback against the Malles duo of Unterberger and Ceol, ultimately clinching the title in three tight sets with scores of 8-15, 15-13, and 15-13.
In the Under-17 Boys’ Doubles, Mattia Cattaneo partnered with Felix Tragust Atz, also representing Uberetsch. The pairing secured the gold medal in straight sets, defeating the team of Lagasio from Il Punto and Cardillo from Pietrarossa 18-16 and 15-11.
Multiple Podiums for Mattia Cattaneo and Club Medallists
Mattia Cattaneo added two silver medals to his tournament haul. He finished as runner-up in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles after falling in the final to Bolzano’s Kubicek, and claimed a second silver in the Under-15 Mixed Doubles alongside partner Lea Gitterle of ASV Mals, according to match records.
Additional podium finishes for the Lecco contingent included bronze medals for Matteo Maggioni in the Men’s Singles, Nicola Cattaneo alongside Nicola Ottaviani of Arena Verona in the 35+ Men’s Doubles, and Edvidio Milani in both the 55+ Men’s Singles and the 55+ Men’s Doubles paired with Franco Rivoltella of CUS BG.
Training Camp Precedes Grand Prix Success
Prior to the weekend tournament, the club’s athletes participated in a five-day training camp in Val Venosta hosted at ASV Malles, featuring two daily training sessions under the supervision of coaching staff. Edvidio Milani, serving as both coach and vice president of the club, noted the demanding schedule in remarks covered by regional media, praising the squad’s preparation and results.
Alongside the tournament competition, club athlete and secretary Chiara Landi completed a 1st Level Coaching course held in Malles over the same weekend, successfully earning her official technical qualification.
