Francavilla Fontana is preparing to step onto the international sporting stage as one of the host municipalities for the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, backed by a combined financial investment of millions of euros aimed at modernizing local athletic infrastructure, according to municipal reports and regional coverage.
The multi-sport event, scheduled to run from August 21 to September 3, 2026, spans Taranto and 14 other municipalities in the Apulia region, with national broadcaster RAI planning over 100 hours of overall coverage.
Local preparations have unfolded over a two-year period through a collaborative framework linking the municipal administration, the special commissioner structure led by Massimo Ferrarese, and the official Games organizing committee. Financial backing for the capital works totals 6.5 million euros secured from the national government via the commissioner’s office, supplemented by an additional 400,000 euros allocated directly by the municipal government of Francavilla Fontana.
