Undefeated flyweight standout Dakota Ditcheva is once again staring down a lengthy recovery period after suffering a severe reinjury to both hands during her co-main event victory at PFL New York on Long Island.
That triumphant return, however, came at an immediate physical cost. Ditcheva kept the damage hidden from her cornerman and spectators as the bout wore on, only acknowledging the physical toll once she stepped out of the cage.
“I broke my hands in the fight. I could feel it from the second I started the second round. I didn’t tell my corner. I didn’t tell anybody. I didn’t show it this time, and I didn’t actually tell anybody until I got out of the cage.”

When medical professionals advised surgery on both hands following her 2025 fractures, Ditcheva opted for an intervention on only one side, gambling that the unoperated hand would hold firm under the rigors of competition. That decision ultimately backfired during the grueling three-round battle with Kielholtz.
“I was told that if I didn’t go ahead with surgery at that time, there was a possibility it could break again. I took the risk in not doing the surgery because I was hoping it would hold strong, and it didn’t. So therefore I’m paying the price for it now and I will be out for a little bit.”

Reflecting on the emotional weight of another prolonged absence from the cage, Ditcheva admitted to a difficult week of processing the news, though she remains resolute about her long-term future in the sport.
“I have honestly cried nonstop the last week, I think yesterday and today is the [first] days that I haven’t cried at all. This is not gonna take me out. My career is not done, although it felt like that once again. I will be back. I’m hopefully gonna be back quicker than I was last time.”
