The path to the podium was not entirely straightforward. Earlier in the tournament, during the opening match of the main round, Germany suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of the very same Slovenian side they later dominated in the gold medal match. Wudtke’s team adjusted its tactical approach between that initial setback and the rematch, neutralizing Slovenia’s primary back-court threats.

This continental triumph underscores an extraordinary run of success across all levels of the DHB youth structure. Earlier in July, the women’s under-20 team claimed the world championship crown, building on the under-19 squad’s European Championship victory from the previous year. On the men’s side, both the under-17 and under-19 national teams secured world titles during the prior international calendar.
