Their pathways into the professional peloton differ significantly. Blasi transitioned rapidly from multisport disciplines in 2024. Benito established herself over a longer trajectory culminating in national titles and the Paris Olympic Games.
Both riders highlight the efficacy of regional talent pipelines in Spanish cycling. According to Club Ciclista Baix Ter president Sergi Güell, Blasi’s initial transition to the sport in 2024 caught team management by surprise during an exploratory training session.
Blasi was born in Esplugues de Llobregat in 2003. She had previously focused on track and field, duathlon, and triathlon before seeking a low-impact alternative during an injury layoff.
Catching Team Management by Surprise
Within a span of two and a half years, her progression through regional and national ranks brought her to elite competitions. These included appearances at the Tour de France Femmes and victories in domestic calendar highlights such as the Vuelta a España Femenina supporting roles and regional events.
Her development also ran via the Massi Baix Ter setup in Torroella de Montgrí.
«Ho era tot. La mirada, la manera de pedalar, la posició del cos. En un moment vam veure que tenia un nivell altíssim i que era molt potent», Güell said of Blasi’s initial tryout, noting the immediate indicators of high-level athletic potential.
Methodical Ascent Through Continental Ranks
Operating on a different timeline, Mireia Benito developed through the same regional ecosystem via the Massi-Tactic UCI continental squad. This preceded her securing major international and national milestones.
Approaching her 30s and hailing from Llorenç del Penedès, Benito captured elite Spanish national championship titles in both the individual time trial and road race disciplines. She subsequently represented Spain in the road events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Springboard to the Highest Tiers
While Benito’s career represents a methodical ascent through the continental ranks, Blasi’s trajectory reflects a compressed timeline native to endurance athletes crossing over from multi-sport backgrounds.
Despite these structural and chronological differences, both athletes utilized the Empordà-based framework as a springboard to the highest tiers of international competition.
