Junts has confirmed that former municipal councilor Carles Ribas will occupy the number two spot on its electoral ticket for the upcoming Girona municipal elections, running alongside mayoral candidate Gemma Geis.
Coalition Dynamics and Electoral Realignments in Girona
Ribas previously served as a councilor under former mayor Marta Madrenas as a member of Convergència. However, in the preceding municipal cycle, he launched his own local platform, ARA Girona. That independent run garnered 1,579 votes, translating to 4.6 percent of the total ballot count. While that performance fell just short of the 5 percent threshold required to secure a seat on the city council, local political analysts frequently cited that split as a key factor in Junts dropping nearly half its vote share in those elections.
Following his independent bid, Ribas joined the Partit Nacionalista de Catalunya (PNC), an organization established by Marta Pascual. The current arrangement brings Ribas back into direct alignment with the party led by Carles Puigdemont through a formal coalition framework designated as Junts x Girona.
