Caitlin Clark became the first player in WNBA history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in a single game, leading the Indiana Fever to a 110-107 comeback victory over the Seattle Storm on Friday. Clark set a new Fever franchise scoring record with 45 points in the win.
A Historic Performance in Indianapolis
Caitlin Clark’s 45-point, 10-assist performance against the Seattle Storm on Friday night marked a significant milestone in WNBA history. Clark became the first player in the league to reach those specific totals in a single game. She achieved the feat in just 29 minutes, effectively breaking the previous Indiana Fever regular-season franchise scoring record of 38 points, which had been held by teammate Kelsey Mitchell.

The game-winning sequence occurred with 39.1 seconds remaining, when Clark hit a 25-foot stepback three-pointer to give Indiana a lead it would not relinquish. Clark also recorded four steals and two blocks, including a critical defensive play where she chased down Seattle guard Flau’jae Johnson to strip the ball away during a fast-break layup attempt.
“Some nights, like, you know you have it — even before the ball tips. I felt like it was going to be one of those for me.”
Overcoming Injury and Minutes Restrictions
Clark’s performance arrived despite lingering concerns regarding a back injury that had limited her availability throughout the season. Clark had been on a minutes restriction and missed time following a physical encounter with Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas earlier this summer. That incident resulted in a one-game suspension and a $1,000 fine for Thomas.

Despite the team’s initial caution, Clark refused to leave the floor during the high-stakes final quarter. There was no way I was ever coming out of the game in the fourth quarter,
Clark said following the win. Her coach, Stephanie White, acknowledged the rarity of the effort, remarking that the guard does things we haven’t seen.
Adam Silver Addresses Public Discourse
This follows a letter sent by a group of 11 Republican lawmakers to WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert, which expressed concern that the treatment of Clark may be linked to race or jealousy. Silver rejected the idea that these on-court incidents should be categorized as purely political, stating that he has come to know Clark well and views her as an incredible player and also an incredible person.

Fever Momentum and Upcoming Schedule
The win against Seattle moved the Fever to a 15-10 record, continuing a strong stretch for the team. Clark also became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 200 career three-pointers, hitting the milestone in just 74 games.
As the Fever look to maintain their position, the team faces a quick turnaround. Following the victory over the Storm, Indiana is scheduled to host the New York Liberty on Saturday night. While Clark did not play in back-to-back games earlier in the season due to her injury, she did not rule out participating in the upcoming matchup.
