According to reports from Radio-Canada, neighborhood groups have formed a common front to challenge the project, citing the need to protect the park's limited open areas from further commercial or sporting infrastructure development.
National Bank Open Preparations Amidst Controversy
While the infrastructure debate continues, Tennis Canada is finalizing preparations for the upcoming edition of the National Bank Open. Valérie Tétreault has publicly addressed the expansion plans, emphasizing that while the organization has growth ambitions, there are clear limits to their expansionist goals within the Jarry Park site.
Despite the ongoing discourse over land use, the event is set to feature a highly competitive field. Tournament officials confirmed that 71 of the world’s top 72-ranked players are slated to participate in this year’s competition. The notable exception is Carlos Alcaraz, who has opted not to compete in this year’s tournament.
“I think we are going to have a beautiful tournament with an enormous amount of depth,” Tétreault stated regarding the player roster.
