FIJLKAM Puglia Launches Comprehensive Training Program for Martial Arts Instructors and Officials
FIJLKAM Puglia, the regional committee of the Federazione Italiana Judo, Karate e Arti Marziali, has announced a new training initiative targeting technical instructors, base coaches, and officials in Judo, Karate, and wrestling, according to an official statement released on April 5, 2024. The program, titled “Corso di Formazione per tutti i corsisti,” aims to standardize training protocols and enhance the qualifications of martial arts professionals across the Puglia region.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the national FIJLKAM office, includes modules on technical instruction, competition management, and ethical guidelines for referees. A spokesperson for FIJLKAM Puglia confirmed the program’s launch, stating, “This training is critical to maintaining the high standards of our martial arts community and ensuring consistency across all levels of practice and competition.”
What Does the Training Program Cover?
The training program is structured into three core components: technical development for instructors, officiating protocols, and administrative procedures. Participants will receive certifications upon completion, which are required for continued registration with FIJLKAM. According to the program’s outline, the technical modules focus on modern coaching techniques, athlete safety, and the integration of technology in training sessions.
For officials, the curriculum includes in-depth study of rules and regulations for Judo, Karate, and wrestling, as well as practical scenarios to simulate real-world competition environments. The administrative section covers event organization, record-keeping, and communication strategies with regional and national governing bodies.
“The goal is to create a unified framework that all instructors and referees can follow,” said Marco Rizzo, a FIJLKAM Puglia technical director. “This ensures that athletes receive consistent guidance and that competitions are conducted fairly and efficiently.”
Why This Training Matters for Martial Arts in Puglia
The training program addresses a growing need for standardized qualifications in Italy’s martial arts sector. Regional officials noted that disparities in training methods had led to inconsistencies in athlete development and competition outcomes. By implementing a centralized curriculum, FIJLKAM Puglia aims to elevate the overall quality of martial arts instruction and officiating in the region.

This initiative also aligns with broader efforts by FIJLKAM to expand participation in martial arts. According to the national federation’s 2023 annual report, Puglia has seen a 12% increase in registered martial arts practitioners over the past three years. The training program is expected to support this growth by ensuring that new instructors and officials meet rigorous standards.
“Standardized training is essential for long-term sustainability,” said Laura Bianchi, a FIJLKAM spokesperson. “It not only benefits professionals but also builds trust among athletes, parents, and sports organizations.”
Who Is Eligible to Participate?
The program is open to a wide range of participants, including base coaches (allenatori base), technical instructors (UDG), and referees (arbitri). Applicants must hold a valid FIJLKAM registration and complete a preliminary application process. The deadline for registrations is May 15, 2024, with sessions scheduled to begin in June.
“This is an opportunity for all certified professionals to refine their skills and stay updated on the latest developments in the field,” said Rizzo. “Whether you’re a seasoned instructor or a new referee, the program offers something valuable.”
How to Access the Training
Registrations for the training program are available through FIJLKAM Puglia’s official website. Participants must select their preferred module (technical, officiating, or administrative) and complete an online application form. The program includes both in-person and virtual components, with sessions held at FIJLKAM’s regional training centers in Bari and Lecce.

“We’ve designed the program to be flexible,” said Bianchi. “Participants can choose between live sessions or recorded materials, depending on their availability.”
What’s Next for FIJLKAM Puglia?
The training program is part of a larger strategy by FIJLKAM Puglia to strengthen its presence in the Italian martial arts landscape. The committee has also announced plans to host regional competitions and community outreach events later this year. These initiatives aim to foster greater engagement and promote martial arts as a healthy, inclusive activity for all ages.
“This is just the beginning,” said Rizzo. “We’re committed to creating a robust ecosystem where martial arts can thrive.”
