Scottish fans known as the Tartan Army generated significant public safety concerns in Boston ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to multiple law enforcement sources. While no official matches have been scheduled in Boston for the tournament, the city’s police department confirmed increased patrols and coordination with federal agencies due to the anticipated large-scale fan activity.
The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature 60 matches across 16 cities. Boston is not among the confirmed host venues, which include Atlanta, New York/New Jersey, and Los Angeles. However, the Scottish Football Association (SFA) has indicated that traveling supporters may gather in Boston as part of pre-tournament events.
