The pair paused on a bench to watch beach volleyball games on the popular Promenade, engaging with local fans who eagerly requested selfies. The German squad, which arrived in Chicago on Tuesday, has been acclimating to the time zone ahead of their first training session in the U.S. On Wednesday.

Neuer’s Potential Comeback Looms

The trip to Chicago, the host city for the 2026 World Cup, has already sparked speculation about Neuer’s role in the tournament. The veteran goalkeeper, who has not played for Germany since a Wadenverhärtung (muscle strain) on Saturday, could make his return in the team’s upcoming test match against the U.S. On June 10. Nagelsmann confirmed in a press conference that Neuer is in “good shape” for the match, though the coach opted to rest him during Germany’s 4-0 friendly win against Finland on Sunday. Instead, Oliver Baumann, the current No. 1, was given the starting nod. Neuer’s potential return would be a significant boost for the team, as he has been a key figure in Germany’s recent campaigns.

Urbig’s Backup Role and Training Integration

Jonas Urbig, who serves as Neuer’s backup at Bayern Munich, is not part of the official World Cup squad but has been fully integrated into the training program.
