This decision stems from an NCAA regulation requiring at least 12 hours of rest between games if a preceding contest extends past 1 a.m. local time. The second game of the regional, featuring Miami and Troy, did not wrap up until 1:53 a.m. on Saturday. Before the marquee matchup between the Gators and the Hurricanes, the regional will continue with an elimination game at 3 p.m. between Troy and Rider. Florida enters the nightcap with a 40-19 record, aiming to build on the momentum of their opening performance.

Florida’s path to the Saturday night slot was anything but straightforward. In the opening game against Rider, the Gators relied on five home runs to overcome a significant mid-game deficit.
