The event, held on April 29, 2026, at the ‘Antonio Caba’ pavilion, drew nearly 300 young athletes in the benjamin and alevín (ages 8-12) categories, demonstrating the growing popularity and educational value of the sport.
The championship is part of a series of activities commemorating Manzanares’ designation as the European City of Sport for 2026. Organizers emphasized judo’s role as an Olympic sport with a strong track record of success for Spain, and its recognition by UNESCO as a beneficial introductory sport for children and young people.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the event highlighted the educational benefits of judo. Paqui Moreno, a coach with Club de Judo Manzanares, noted that the sport fosters respect, discipline, and cooperation, while actively discouraging aggression. Her appointment as president was confirmed in July 2024, as she was the sole candidate. The federation has been actively promoting judo and related disciplines, including Aikido and Jiu-Jitsu, throughout the region. In fact, five members of the Municipal School of Judo and the Club de Judo Manzanares were recognized at the XVII Regional Gala of the Judo Federation of Castilla-La Mancha in Guadalajara on Saturday, March 3, 2017. Ángel Ordóñez (judo), Joaquín Valencia and Lázaro Fernández (jiu-jitsu), and Luis Jiménez (self-defense) were awarded as the best athletes in their respective categories. Jorge Juan Morales received promotion to third dan in jiu-jitsu.
The success of the regional championship builds on a series of judo events held in Castilla-La Mancha in recent years. These include the II Copa «A» de España de Judo Junior «Memorial Eugenio Benito» held on March 22, 2025, the III Phase of School Sports Sub-15 & Sub-18 Judo on March 20, 2025, and the II Phase of School Sports Sub-15 & Sub-18 Judo on February 26, 2025. The region also hosted the Judo Junior Championship of CLM on January 28, 2025, and the I Phase of School Sports Sub-15 & Sub-18 Judo on January 21, 2025.
