Bologna’s IMA San Mamolo Judo club continued its rise in national judo circles with a strong showing at the Coppa Italia 2026, held April 18–19 in Gerenzano, Varese. The event drew over 600 athletes from across Italy, providing a stern test for the Bolognese squad. Four San Mamolo athletes competed, with three securing top-ten finishes in their respective weight categories.
Franzoni Tamburri, Viola Castellani, and Mattia Castellani each placed ninth nationally, a notable achievement given the depth of competition. Mattia Castellani stood out by winning two matches before his exit, demonstrating improved technique and resilience under pressure. His performance signaled ongoing development within the club’s youth pipeline.
Ruben Belloni and Luca Costantino Patta, though eliminated in the opening round, gained valuable experience facing high-level opponents. Mechi and Fabbroni have been regular contributors to San Mamolo’s senior-level outputs, and their selection for the cadet national final reflects sustained performance in training and prior competitions. Their participation aims to build on the momentum generated by teammates’ Gerenzano outing.
