Akita Northern Happinets point guard Iwaiya Yori has quickly become a vital part of the team’s rotation since his professional debut in late March. When asked about his shooting form, Iwaiya noted that he has recently worked with assistant coaches to avoid dipping the ball during his release, a tendency that can cause inconsistency. He cited Chiba Jets’ Yuki Togashi as a player whose pull-up game he admires, acknowledging the difficulty of replicating Togashi’s speed and precision.
Beyond the professional level, Iwaiya’s basketball pedigree includes two consecutive selections to the Japanese 3×3 U23 national team. His experience in the fast-paced, half-court discipline has translated to his decision-making and shot creation in 5-on-5 play, particularly in transition and pick-and-roll situations.
Born on April 20, 2003, Iwaiya captained Waseda University during the 2025 season, helping lead the team to a runner-up finish in the All-Japan University Basketball Championship. That leadership experience has aided his adjustment to the professional ranks, where he has been praised by teammates and staff for his work ethic and team-first attitude.
