Latvian Rider Gajis Rozkalns Withdraws Early from Le Mans 24-Hour Motorcycle Race Due to Technical Issues

Latvian motorcycle racer Gajis Rozkalns was forced to withdraw prematurely from the prestigious Le Mans 24-hour endurance race on Saturday, April 19, 2026, after experiencing technical problems with his motorcycle. The withdrawal was announced by Rozkalns himself via social media, confirming the early end to his participation in the event held at the Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans, France.

Rozkalns, competing as part of the French team Infiniteam FLAM Racing, managed to complete only the initial stint of the race before handing over the motorcycle to a teammate in 26th position. Shortly thereafter, his team was unable to continue due to an engine defect, bringing their participation to an end. The Le Mans 24-hour motorcycle race format requires riders to rotate approximately every hour for pit stops involving tire changes, refueling, and rider changes, with each rider expected to complete about eight stints throughout the event if they maintain the required pace.

Despite the early setback, Rozkalns was later part of a different entry, the PMS99 Yam Service team, which included himself alongside French riders Igo de Kanselis, Klim Rambure, and Markus Delestri. This combined entry finished in 24th place out of 39 teams that completed the race, showcasing resilience and teamwork in overcoming the initial adversity.

The Le Mans 24-hour motorcycle race is a significant event in the endurance racing calendar, attracting international competitors and testing both machine and rider endurance over a full day of racing.
