Rosario Central President Addresses Abuse Allegations in Youth Teams: “It’s a Painful and Uncomfortable Topic”
Rosario Central president Gonzalo Belloso broke his silence on Thursday regarding serious allegations of sexual abuse and violence involving youth players, calling the situation “a painful and uncomfortable topic” that has shaken the club and its community.
Speaking during an Ordinary General Assembly at the club’s Cruce Alberdi subsidiary, Belloso confirmed that the allegations first came to light via email on April 21, but the club only received formal notification about the nature of the claims on the morning of April 24, 2026.
“We were informed on the 21st that we had received a complaint, but only today were we told it involved acts of violence and sexual abuse occurring in the 2013 age category,” Belloso stated, as reported by Rosario3 and RosarioNuestro.
The allegations specifically involve players born in 2013, who are part of Rosario Central’s youth development system. Upon receiving the information, the club immediately suspended all activities for that age group and called for an urgent meeting with coaches, administrators, and parents.
Belloso emphasized the importance of the locker room environment in the club’s youth program, noting that for players over 12 years old, “the locker room becomes an additional subject at Central.” He explained that from that age, players arrive at the field directly, train with their bags beside them, and spend significant time in these shared spaces.
“For us, the locker room topic is incredibly crucial because it’s where they coexist, bond, and spend a lot of time — more than on the field,” Belloso said. He acknowledged that while the environment is meant to be one of mutual respect, “some incidents occurred where we didn’t have the chance to realize what was happening regarding heavy jokes or lack of respect among peers.”
The club president revealed that the incidents were initially reported by the young players to their parents, but the families did not formally communicate the concerns to club officials until recently. “They told their parents, and the parents didn’t report it. But only this morning did we find out,” Belloso explained.
In response, Rosario Central has suspended all activities for the affected category and initiated a comprehensive review process. Belloso pledged that the club would “take the corresponding measures” following the investigation, though he did not specify potential disciplinary actions or whether authorities have been notified.
The allegations have caused consternation throughout Rosario Central’s community, damaging the reputation of what Belloso described as “a very respected club in formation, recruitment, and youth management, including the club hotel.”
As of the latest verified reports, the club is cooperating with the ongoing process and has committed to supporting the affected youth and their families through this difficult situation. No further details about the specific nature of the allegations or potential perpetrators have been made public by official sources.
The next confirmed checkpoint in this matter will be the outcome of the internal investigation and any subsequent actions taken by Rosario Central’s leadership, which the club has stated it will communicate to members and the public when appropriate.
