Bayern Munich reaches DFB-Pokal final with 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen
FC Bayern Munich secured their place in the DFB-Pokal final with a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. The win keeps alive the club’s hopes of achieving a historic treble, having already secured the Bundesliga title three days prior.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, finishing a move initiated by Jamal Musiala. Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken made several early saves to maintain the deficit minimal at halftime, despite Leverkusen failing to register a single shot on target in the first half.
Leverkusen showed improved attacking intent after the break, creating their first meaningful chance in the 52nd minute through Patrick Schick. Yet, Flekken continued to frustrate the home side with key saves, preserving Bayern’s narrow lead as the visitors maintained control.
The decisive second goal came deep into stoppage time. In the 90th+4 minute, Konrad Goretzka played a diagonal pass from the right flank to Luis Diaz, who had made a run from midfield. Diaz controlled the ball, took a few steps, and fired a left-footed shot past Flekken from approximately 13 meters out. The goal was confirmed after a VAR review, which ruled that Diaz was not offside when receiving the pass.
The victory marks Bayern Munich’s first DFB-Pokal final appearance since 2020, when they completed the treble under Hansi Flick. The club will now face either VfB Stuttgart or SC Freiburg in the final, scheduled for May 23, 2026, at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
For Bayer Leverkusen, the focus now shifts to securing Champions League qualification through their remaining four Bundesliga matches. Currently sixth in the league table, Leverkusen trails the Champions League places by four points under head coach Kasper Hjulmand.
Looking ahead, Bayern Munich will prepare for the DFB-Pokal final while managing their squad ahead of the season’s conclusion. The club aims to cap a historic season with a second consecutive trophy, following their Bundesliga triumph.
