Soria Badminton Club Achieves Strong Results Across Four Competitions

The Club Bádminton Soria-CS24 enjoyed a successful weekend of competition, securing victories and podium finishes across four different events leading into the Semana Santa (Holy Week) break. The team demonstrated its strength in both youth and senior categories, signaling a positive trajectory for the club as the season progresses. This badminton success spanned events in Burgos, Navarra, and Madrid, showcasing the breadth of talent within the Soria-CS24 program.

Dominant Performance in Burgos

The Campeonato Absoluto de Castilla y León, held in Burgos, proved particularly fruitful for the club. Nineteen-year-old Daniela Corchón lived up to expectations, claiming the individual title in the absolute category. Corchón didn’t drop a single set throughout the tournament, displaying a commanding presence on the court. Her performance underscores her status as a rising star in Spanish badminton.

Corchón’s success extended to the doubles competition, where she partnered with teammate Beatriz Hernández to secure a silver medal. They overcame the pairing of Nora Martínez and Vanessa García in earlier rounds to reach the final. This result highlights the growing strength of the Soria-CS24 doubles program.

Jorge Peñaranda added to the club’s medal haul in Burgos, earning bronze medals in both the individual and mixed doubles events. Peñaranda teamed up with Hernández in the mixed doubles, securing his second podium finish of the tournament. Senior Players Shine in San Lorenzo de El Escorial

Meanwhile, a contingent of senior players competed at the Master Nacional Senior in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Four Soria-CS24 players were joined by Sergio Latorre of AD89, and all returned with medals, confirming their excellent form ahead of the Campeonato de España scheduled for early May in Cáceres. The competition in San Lorenzo de El Escorial was particularly strong, with a high level of participation due to its central location.

Santiago Martínez came closest to securing a gold medal, reaching the finals in all three possible categories: individual, men’s doubles with Manuel Acero, and mixed doubles with Beatriz Martín of Club Bádminton Leganés. Despite a physically demanding weekend and strong opposition, Martínez had to settle for three silver medals. His performance, however, remains a testament to his skill and dedication.

Manuel Acero also enjoyed a successful tournament, adding a silver medal in men’s doubles (with Martínez) and two bronze medals in individual and mixed doubles (partnering with Cristina Irigoyen of Vitoria). Acero’s performance is particularly noteworthy as he continues to recover from a recent injury, demonstrating his ability to compete at a high level despite physical challenges.

José Carlos Pérez secured three bronze medals, narrowly missing out on semifinal victories in all three of his events. His matches were closely contested, with some extending to a third set, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament.

David Hernansanz and Sergio Latorre combined to win a bronze medal in the men’s doubles, further contributing to the club’s overall success.

Youth Success in Navarra

Adding to the weekend’s triumphs, Jimena Ayllón secured two gold medals at the Master Territorial organized by the Federación Navarra. Ayllón dominated in both the individual female and female doubles events (partnering with Laia Minguez of Catalonia). These results are expected to propel her into the top 20 rankings nationally in the under-17 category, despite limited competition this season.
