John van ’t Schip, the former Ajax manager, has been forced to withdraw from the latest RTL program Football Island due to medical issues. The 62-year-old’s participation in the reality show was cut short after experiencing health problems on the island, according to reports from Dutch media outlets.

Despite initially receiving clearance from doctors despite pre-existing pain, van ’t Schip’s condition deteriorated after just one day on the uninhabited island alongside a group of former footballers. “We went to bed around 8:30 PM, and I think I was the first to fall asleep because I hadn’t slept the night before due to the pain. But I started experiencing the same complaints again. That’s when I went to the hospital and spent a few hours there,” van ’t Schip explained in the second episode of the show, as reported by soccernews.nl.

The situation ultimately led to his involuntary exit from the program. “You hope the pain will subside, but it just kept building up. Eventually, I had to decide to prioritize my health,” he said.

The news clearly affected the other contestants. Jan van Halst, a fellow participant, commented, “Everyone knows John very well. Our thoughts are with him, while we’re doing our best here on Football Island.”

Van ’t Schip was part of a cast that included Kenneth Perez, Jan van Halst, Richard Witschge, Mike Obiku, Tom Beugelsdijk, Ryan Babel, Wesley Sneijder, and Kees Kwakman, all tasked with surviving together on an island in the Dominican Republic, as detailed in soccernews.nl.
