Hradec Králové, Czech Republic – Miloš Roman continues to prove he has a knack for scoring crucial overtime goals, propelling HC Oceláři Třinec into the semifinals of the Czech Extraliga. The 26-year-vintage Slovakian forward scored the game-winning goal in the fifth and final match of the quarterfinal series against Mountfield Hradec Králové on Friday, March 27, 2026, securing a 3-2 victory in overtime and a 4-1 series win.
Roman’s goal, coming at the 84:22 mark of the game, mirrored a similar game-winning performance in Game 2 of the series. This latest victory concludes what was a tightly contested series, with all five games proving to be competitive matchups. The win sends Třinec through to the next round of the playoffs, while bringing an complete to Hradec Králové’s season.
This isn’t the first time Roman has delivered in the clutch for Třinec. In April 2024, he scored the decisive goal in the 122nd minute of a game against Sparta Prague, securing Třinec’s place in the final – a game that remains the second-longest in the history of the Czech Extraliga and marked the first-ever comeback from a 0-3 series deficit in league playoff history.
“It was a great feeling,” Roman said, according to idnes.cz. “Like on Sparta, and even now, I didn’t even realize it was a goal at first. Patrik Hrehorčák got the puck in front of the net, I was in a battle with a defender, and it hit me in the leg. It doesn’t matter who scored it or how it went in, we just felt relieved that we closed it out.”
Hradec Králové finished the regular season just three points ahead of Třinec. While the series ended 4-1, each game was closely fought. In Friday’s decisive match, Třinec relinquished a two-goal lead in under two minutes before Roman’s overtime heroics.
“Today was mentally very demanding, especially at the end,” Roman added. “Hradec put us under pressure, but we got through it and showed our strength in overtime. Hradec played with quality, and it was a difficult series.”
Roman’s ability to perform under pressure has become a hallmark of his game. He’s quickly establishing himself as a specialist in long playoff series, having now decided three overtime games in the past two years. His contributions have been instrumental in Třinec’s success, and his clutch performances are a key reason why the team is now one step closer to another league championship.
For those unfamiliar with the Czech Extraliga, it’s considered one of the top professional ice hockey leagues in Europe, consistently producing players who go on to compete in the NHL and other major leagues. The league’s playoff format is a best-of-seven series, making each game crucial and intensifying the pressure on players like Roman.
Třinec will now await the outcome of the other quarterfinal series to determine their semifinal opponent. The team’s success is a testament to their overall depth and resilience, but Roman’s ability to deliver in critical moments is undoubtedly a significant factor. As they advance, the question remains: can Roman continue his streak of clutch performances and lead Třinec to another championship title?
The next confirmed checkpoint for HC Oceláři Třinec is the announcement of their semifinal opponent and the release of the playoff schedule. Stay tuned to Archysport for further updates on the Czech Extraliga playoffs.
