Vitoria honed his skills at clubs like Sudburry Lions, CS Azzurri, Mississauga Falcons, Dixie SC, and Glen Shields SC. In 2004, he signed with Woodbridge Strikers, a semi-professional club, marking a crucial step in his development.
Early Professional Career in Portugal
A significant opportunity arose in 2005 when Vitoria was signed by Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto at the age of 18. He signed a four-year contract, but initially struggled to break into the first team. To gain regular playing time, he was loaned to Tourizense, Olhanense, and Covilha. Despite these loan spells, he didn’t earn significant minutes with Porto’s senior squad.
Subsequently, Vitoria moved to Estoril, where he spent three seasons before being signed by Benfica. His time at Benfica included a loan stint with Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer. However, he saw limited action, making only one appearance for Benfica’s first team.
Switching Allegiances and Finding a Home with Canada
Vitoria’s limited opportunities in Portugal led him to consider representing Canada internationally. Whereas he had previously represented Portugal at the U-19 and U-20 levels in 2006-2007, he decided to switch his allegiance to Canada in 2012.

In 2018, following Canada’s failure to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, John Herdman – previously successful with the Canadian women’s national team – was appointed as the head coach of the men’s national team. Initially, Vitoria wasn’t a prominent figure in Herdman’s plans, seeing limited playing time in 2018 despite having been a regular choice in 2016 and 2017.
