ORLEANS, France – The Indonesian men’s doubles pair of Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana saw their run at the Orleans Masters 2026 come to an end on Saturday, March 21st, falling to China’s Hu Ke Yuan and Lin Xiang Yi in the semifinal round at the Palais des Sports in Orleans, France.
The Chinese duo, ranked fifth in the tournament, quickly established control of the match, leaving little room for the Indonesian pair to find their rhythm. Hu and Lin demonstrated a strong offensive game from the outset, consistently putting pressure on Leo and Bagas.
The first game saw Hu Ke Yuan and Lin Xiang Yi surge ahead, taking an early 3-1 lead. A challenge by Leo/Bagas on a perceived out-ball at 3-5 proved unsuccessful, extending the Chinese pair’s advantage to 6-3. The challenge backfired as the ball was confirmed to have landed outside the court. This momentum allowed Hu/Lin to build a substantial lead, reaching the interval with an 11-7 advantage. Whereas Leo and Bagas attempted to close the gap after the break, the Chinese pair maintained their composure and ultimately secured the first game.
The second game began with a similar pattern, as Hu and Lin raced to a 4-1 lead. Leo/Bagas fought to respond, but the Chinese pair continued to apply pressure, reaching the interval with a narrow 11-10 lead. The match remained competitive, with both sides trading points, but Hu/Lin were able to maintain a slight edge and close out the match in straight games.
“Alhamdulillah, today we were able to reach the semifinals. Our opponents played very well and safely, especially in the second game. We implemented a defensive pattern and then tried to counter-attack,” Leo Rolly Carnando said through a press statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
Bagas Maulana added, “In the first game, Leo got a lot of points from one serve and covered everything, so my body felt a bit cold. So, when the match started to obtain tight in the second game, I couldn’t get in, I couldn’t play as well as yesterday. But thankfully, we were able to finish it in straight games.”
The Indonesian pair, seeded third in the tournament, had previously defeated India’s MR Arjun and Amsakarunan Harikaran in the quarterfinal round, securing their place in the semifinals with a 21-12, 22-20 victory. That win marked a fortunate progression for Leo/Bagas, who relied on a strong service game from Leo to gain an advantage.
The Orleans Masters 2026 continues to showcase exciting badminton action, with Tanvi Sharma of India too making a significant run, dominating a higher-ranked opponent to reach the semi-finals, according to reports from olympics.com.
While Leo and Bagas’s campaign at the Orleans Masters has concluded, their performance demonstrates continued progress for the Indonesian duo on the international stage. Fans will be looking forward to their next tournament and hoping for a strong showing as they continue to build momentum.
