The events, which began today, celebrate the completion of the elections for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Council representatives for the 2026-2031 term, alongside the 80th anniversary of Traditional Day of Vietnamese Sports and Physical Education (March 27, 1946 – March 27, 2026).

More than 20 teams are participating in the tournament, vying for top honors in men’s and women’s badminton doubles, as well as men’s doubles badminton separated by age groups (over 41 and under 40) and table tennis. The competitions are designed to promote physical fitness and strengthen community bonds, according to Pham Van Thao, Deputy Chairman of the Ung Thien Commune People’s Committee.

Promoting Physical Fitness and Community Spirit

“The sports competition is a practical activity aimed at further promoting the movement ‘All people practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh,’” Thao stated. “It creates a healthy playground, strengthens exchanges, and consolidates solidarity among villages and units in the area, thereby contributing to building a more developed cultural life at the grassroots level.”

The emphasis on community participation reflects a broader national initiative to encourage physical activity and well-being among all citizens. Vietnam has a strong tradition of promoting sports at the local level, recognizing its importance not only for physical health but also for social cohesion and national pride. This tournament in Ung Thien commune is a microcosm of that larger effort.
