La Grande-Motte, France – The Badminton Club La Grande-Motte (BCGM) hosted a stage of the departmental interclub competition for young players this past weekend, March 14th and 15th, organized by the Comité départemental de badminton de l’Hérault (Codep 34). The event, held at the Palais des Sports, saw nearly 200 young badminton enthusiasts compete.
Following previous stages in Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers, Sérignan, and Vendargues, the BCGM welcomed players across several age categories: 9-10 year old “poussins,” 11-12 year old “benjamins,” 13-14 year old “minimes,” 15-16 year old “cadets,” and 17-18 year old “juniors.” Organizers noted that some clubs faced challenges fielding full teams due to limited participation numbers.
This was particularly true for the BCGM, which combined players with those from clubs in Castelnau-le-Lez and Béziers to ensure participation. In the “poussins” category, the BCGM’s “mini marmottes 2” team – comprised of Takuan Kouame and Sofiia Reznichenko – faced opponents from Montpellier and Lunel, finishing fifth out of six teams. The “minimes promotion” team, “marmottes sauvages 2” – featuring Kimiko Solanet and Olena Reznichenko – competed against “Les plumes vendarguoises,” securing a fourth-place finish out of seven teams.
Individual performances highlighted the adaptability of the young players from La Grande-Motte. Kouame and Reznichenko, in the “poussins” doubles matches, unfortunately suffered four defeats. While, the “minimes” players rebounded strongly. Kimiko Solanet won both her doubles and singles matches, while Olena Reznichenko secured victories in two of her three doubles matches and one singles match.
These results demonstrate the resilience and competitive spirit of the young badminton players from La Grande-Motte, as they faced a challenging field of competitors. The BCGM, a club affiliated with the Fédération française de badminton, continues to foster a welcoming environment for players of all levels, offering both recreational and competitive opportunities. The BCGM offers three open play sessions for adults and one coached session for youth, led by a state-certified instructor, all within the well-equipped Palais des Sports, which boasts seven parquet courts. The club’s annual “Volants des Pyramides” tournament is scheduled for December 13th and 14th, 2025, and is expected to draw competitors from across the region. The 2025-2026 season began on September 8th, 2025, with three free trial sessions available to prospective members, with rackets provided.
