Lier Outdoor Play Day 2026: Free Activities for Kids & Teens | April 22nd

Lier, Belgium – The city of Lier is gearing up for its annual Buitenspeeldag (Outdoor Play Day) on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026, promising a wide range of activities designed to get young people active and enjoying the outdoors. From sports and crafts to cooking and skateboarding, the event, running from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time (UTC+2), aims to provide a fun and engaging experience for children and families across the city.

This year’s Buitenspeeldag emphasizes simple, traditional play – think tag, hide-and-seek, ball games, and more – rather than relying on large-scale attractions like bouncy castles. Organizers are also incorporating local record attempts, such as the longest time standing on one leg or the most consecutive jump ropes, with prizes awarded to participants who submit their results to event staff. Winners will receive a “buitenspeelpakketje” (outdoor play package) from Jeugdcentrum Moevement.

The event will unfold across eleven different locations throughout Lier, each offering a unique set of activities. Jeugdcentrum Moevement is partnering with Jeugdhuis De Moeve, badminton clubs Tornado, Bambino, and Twins to host activities at its center. The Sportvelden will collaborate with the Sportdienst, while the Buitenschoolse Kinderopvang de Speelmicroob will also host events. Additional locations include the Buitenschoolse Kinderopvang Lisp, working with Chiro Lisp; the Buitenschoolse Kinderopvang Koningshooikt, in partnership with Chiro Jut and vzw Skillz; Kardinaal Mercierplein, alongside the local library; the Zevenbergen community center, in collaboration with the neighborhood committee; Junglehoeff, with support from various local organizations; Kinderboerderij ’t Struisvogelnest; and Mini-pitch Sion, in cooperation with KSA.

The emphasis on multiple locations is a deliberate effort to make the Buitenspeeldag accessible to children throughout Lier. The city’s youth center, Jeugdcentrum Moevement, is central to the organization of the day, coordinating efforts with a diverse range of local groups and organizations. This collaborative approach underscores the community’s commitment to providing opportunities for outdoor recreation.

For those seeking a more adventurous experience, Junglehoeff offers a unique play area featuring a climbing net, cable car, and a treehouse. The site also includes a multi-purpose sports field for football and other activities. The Stadspark, a well-known local landmark, also provides a traditional playground open daily from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM (7:00 AM to 6:00 PM between November 1st and February 28th), complete with a café offering refreshments.

The Buitenspeeldag builds on a broader initiative to promote year-round outdoor play in Lier. The city provides numerous free play and sports areas, details of which can be found on a downloadable “buitenspeelplan” available from Jeugdcentrum Moevement. Residents can also inquire about temporarily converting their streets into play streets, fostering a safe and community-focused environment for children.

This year’s event follows a successful Buitenspeeldag held on April 23, 2025, which saw children participating in a variety of sports and games at locations across the city. The 2025 event, like this year’s, focused on traditional play and community engagement.

Looking ahead, the city of Lier continues to prioritize initiatives that encourage active lifestyles and community involvement among its youth. The annual Buitenspeeldag serves as a cornerstone of these efforts, providing a fun and accessible opportunity for children to connect with their peers and enjoy the benefits of outdoor play.

The next update regarding city-sponsored youth events will be released by Jeugdcentrum Moevement following the conclusion of the Buitenspeeldag on April 22nd. For more information, residents are encouraged to contact Jeugdcentrum Moevement directly.
