The win extends Slavia’s lead at the top of the table to 13 points, at least until Sparta Prague’s Sunday match against Slovácko. A quick goal from defender Štěpán Chaloupek set the tone for the match, with Lukáš Provod and Mojmír Chytil adding to the scoreline in the second half. Jakub Černín scored a late consolation goal for Zlín.
Chaloupek opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful strike, giving Slavia an early advantage. The goal came after a bit of playful motivation for the defender, who revealed a lighthearted exchange with coach Jindřich Trpišovský. “I got a little annoyed and was joking around,” Chaloupek said, smiling. “In preparation, the coach told us to shoot, that we could do it, and then he named eighty percent of the squad. He almost forgot about me and Marky (goalkeeper Jakub Markovič). So I had a little dig at him.”
Trpišovský, however, downplayed the incident while simultaneously praising Chaloupek’s performance. “He unnecessarily draws attention to himself,” Trpišovský joked. “He’s playing great, and it’s certainly fine for him and his potential move elsewhere, but it will be harder for us to maintain him. He has a good shot, we knew that he could be a threat from those positions, and he delivered. If I had to say which players are the most important in the league, he would definitely be in the narrowest selection.”
Slavia’s dominance was evident from the start, though Zlín initially attempted to disrupt the visitors’ rhythm. The home side created a couple of early chances from corner kicks, but failed to seriously trouble goalkeeper Jakub Markovič, who continues to fill in with Jindřich Staněk still unavailable due to injury.
The breakthrough came courtesy of Chaloupek’s well-placed shot, marking his fourth league goal of the season. Slavia continued to press, with Lukáš Provod having a shot move astray. In the 31st minute, a precautionary substitution saw David Moses replace Ivan Schranz, who had been feeling discomfort after the previous derby match. “Ivan had a bit of a muscle problem after the derby, he was feeling it and it was aggravated. We sent him off as a precaution, wanting to avoid a situation where we’d have to play on without him,” Trpišovský explained.
The second half saw Mojmír Chytil enter the fray, and he quickly made an impact. Slavia doubled their lead in the 66th minute through Provod, who was expertly set up by Moses after a brilliant run from his own half. Moses’s performance was a key factor in disrupting Zlín’s defense, creating space and opportunities for his teammates.
Chytil then added a third goal in the 77th minute, capitalizing on a scramble in the box following a corner kick. The goal was Chytil’s tenth league goal of the season, highlighting his impressive form since being introduced as a substitute. “Mojma looks great. Paradoxically, I think the half-time introduction helps him, giving him time to prepare. He’s then full of energy and knows how to use his body effectively,” Trpišovský commented.
Zlín managed to pull one back in stoppage time, with Jakub Černín scoring from close range after a set-piece. However, the goal proved to be merely a consolation as Slavia comfortably secured the three points.
The victory solidifies Slavia Prague’s position at the top of the Czech First League table. With a 13-point lead, they are well-positioned to secure the championship title. The international break now looms, with half of the Slavia squad joining their respective national teams. “We will train until the end of next week. Half the squad will go to the national teams, and the other half will have time off or individual training. Some of the representatives will get three days off and then join the national teams,” Trpišovský outlined the team’s plans.
