Yangsan City, South Korea, is making significant progress on the Sasong Complex Community Center, a project poised to become a central hub for residents of the Sasong latest town. With a planned completion date of October 2026, the 49.2 billion won (approximately $36.2 million USD) facility promises a comprehensive range of recreational, cultural, and health services.
Yangsan Mayor Na Dong-yeon recently conducted a site visit to assess the construction progress, emphasizing the importance of the center for the community. “The Sasong Complex Community Center is expected to play a significant role as a center for promoting the health and physical culture activities of residents in the Sasong area,” Mayor Na stated, according to a press release from the city. He urged all involved to ensure the project is completed and operational without delay.
Located on a 15,000 square meter plot in Dongmyeon Sasong-ri, the center will occupy 8,790.69 square meters of space, spanning one basement level and two above-ground floors. Construction began in January 2025, and the structural work is now complete, with finishing touches currently underway. This facility represents a substantial investment in the quality of life for Sasong residents, offering amenities currently unavailable within the new town.
The Sasong Complex Community Center will feature a 25-meter, five-lane swimming pool with a separate children’s pool, a dedicated children’s library, a health experience center, and a health promotion room on the first floor. The second floor will house a basketball court, four badminton courts, a public library with general reading rooms, a study room, and a multi-purpose education room, as well as a health education room, counseling facilities, and a community participation room. The diverse range of facilities is designed to cater to a broad spectrum of interests and age groups.
The project’s funding comes from a combination of national (5 billion won), provincial (4.2 billion won), and municipal (40 billion won) sources. The development follows a series of key milestones, including selection for the 2020 Lifestyle Sports Facility Expansion Project, central investment review approval in 2022, and the completion of design and feasibility studies in 2023. This careful planning process underscores the city’s commitment to delivering a high-quality facility.

For residents of Sasong, the community center represents more than just a building; it’s a promise of enhanced recreational opportunities and improved community life. The center’s location within the Sasong new town makes it easily accessible to a growing population, and its comprehensive facilities are expected to foster a stronger sense of community. The inclusion of health-focused amenities also reflects a growing emphasis on preventative healthcare and wellness within the city.
Mayor Na Dong-yeon emphasized the need for thorough preparation to ensure a smooth opening and operation of the facility. “We will make every effort to ensure that the project is completed and operated without any hitches,” he said. The city is currently finalizing plans for staffing, programming, and community engagement to maximize the center’s impact.
The Sasong Complex Community Center is scheduled to open its doors in October 2026. Residents can expect further updates on the project’s progress and details regarding opening events and program schedules in the coming months. The city of Yangsan anticipates this facility will quickly become a cornerstone of community life in Sasong.
