“What we have is arguably the most-watched series of the preliminary round. I must commend Kladno. Since Tomáš Plekanec became the head coach, they’ve fundamentally changed their playing style. They play more offensively, which suits their North American players. This is reflected in their improved performance. Sparta will be under pressure; it won’t be easy for them, but I reckon they will advance.”

“Kometa should win; they have an experienced team. Motor looks like night, and day. At the end of January, the management team was bolstered by sports manager Jirka Novotný, a move I, as a coach, have never understood. I think that when anyone makes such a decision, it sends a signal to their team that they don’t trust the coaches.”

“This will be a particularly even series. As a Vítkovice fan, I hope they can win. (laughs) However, their performance at the end of the regular season wasn’t great. Vítkovice’s performances have been up and down this year, while Karlovy Vary are missing their best player, Ondřej Beránek. If I have to predict, I’d say Karlovy Vary will advance after a five-game battle.”

HC Sparta Praha vs. Rytíři Kladno – Tip: 3-2 for Sparta

“After the last round of the regular season, I heard that under Tomáš Plekanec as head coach, both clubs now have the same record – Sparta and Kladno earned 32 points. I think Pleky has a big influence on Kladno’s game, and it should be added that the roster has also improved with the arrival of a new owner. I expect a heated series, as there is a great rivalry between the two clubs. I believe in Sparta’s experience.”

Vítkovice haven’t really found their footing this season; their strength is concentrated in their first line, and the rest are just scraping by. I think it will be close, but Karlovy Vary will win.”

“In the last twenty games, both teams have earned the same number of points. In their mutual matches, Sparta and Kladno have scored a lot of goals; it’s been wild. Kladno is playing in the playoffs after thirteen years; it will be an emotional series, and Sparta is their biggest rival. The Kladno arena will be packed. Sparta will have a tough time, I’m curious to see how it unfolds. Nevertheless, I think the series will go Sparta’s way.”

HC Kometa Brno vs. Banes Motor České Budějovice – Tip: 3-1 for Kometa

“Another series that’s hard to predict. Their matches in the regular season were even, except for one game when Motor scored eight goals. I believe more in Kometa because they have more resilient players for the playoffs. České Budějovice are dependent on Lantoši and Bulíř, who are more unpredictable players when things obtain tough.”

But Třinec also has excellent goaltenders.”

In this series, both teams will rely heavily on key players – and Karlovy Vary have the better ones.”

“Even though Sparta hasn’t had the results they wanted, their numbers still look good under the surface – in the regular season, they were the second-best team after Pardubice in 5-on-5 play, whether it comes to chances or expected goals. Yes, they haven’t been converting their chances, and they’ve been penalized a lot. But they will win the series with Kladno because they have enough creativity and offensive power. They also excel at puck possession, giving them the best defensive numbers in 5-on-5 play. In a best-of-three preliminary round series, an initial win for Kladno could significantly influence the series.”

HC Kometa Brno vs. Banes Motor České Budějovice – Tip: 3-2 for Kometa

“This series will likely go to five games. The teams are evenly matched and had similar results in the regular season. České Budějovice have the edge in shooting stats, but their chances were similar to Kometa’s. Motor’s offense looked slightly better, but both teams struggled defensively and conceded a relatively high number of goals, poorly limiting the opponent’s chances. It could be an interesting offensive series. Lantoši and Oleson on one side, Flek and Pospíšil on the other. I’m leaning slightly towards Kometa due to their experience.”
