The game wasn’t a display of flowing football, but rather a battle of attrition, particularly for the home side, who understand the importance of securing points in their pursuit of a baráž (playoff) spot. “In the first twenty minutes, we adapted to Artis, who, in their situation, opted for a three-man system, but only with long balls, which meant the ball was more in the air than on the ground,” explained Baník Ostrava B manager Josef Dvorník. “We played similarly, which bothers me, we didn’t have decent combination play, but it’s something new for the boys. Artis went to the limit of combativeness and aggression. That can be a school for young players, so I see it as a benefit.”
Defensive Lapse Costs Baník
The decisive moment came just before halftime when Baník failed to clear their lines inside their own penalty area, allowing Navrátil to score for Artis. “That was our mistake,” Dvorník conceded. He felt his team had more control in the second half, creating several opportunities, but ultimately lacked the cutting edge to find an equalizer. “We had opportunities, but rather half-chances, scrambles. In the last twenty minutes, we combined well, had good movement, but unfortunately, we weren’t effective.”
Early in the second half, Eldar Šehič was forced off the pitch with an injury. “He complained of pain in his muscle, so he went down. We’ll see what the next few days bring, how serious it will be,” said Dvorník, who brought Dennis Owusu from the first team and Vlasije Sinjavskij, returning from injury, into the squad.
Both Owusu and Sinjavskij entered the game after an hour. “It was planned that both should play thirty minutes and get into match fitness. And I was happy with them, because Dennis was active, worked hard, had some good moments. Sinja was constructive,” Dvorník praised.
Sinjavskij’s return from a shoulder injury was a particular focus. “He had a dislocated shoulder, so it’s logical that he now has respect for it, but the match also served to try it out. It was a combative match and he handled it well. Even after the end, he said it was good, so his playing time will probably increase and I believe he will soon be back in league matches,” Dvorník added.
“Both helped us and served their purpose. It was worse that due to the substitution in the first half, I lost a substitution window, so I had to wait until the end to bring on Dvořáček and Drozd. But the boys brought some energy,” he concluded.

Dvorník’s Future at Baník Uncertain
Despite the loss, Dvorník expressed satisfaction that his team had competed well against a side with playoff ambitions. “I don’t want to comment on the opponent, but I would expect the opponent to be more playful, but I also understand that, and this win will probably help them. We will face Táborsko, which will be another experience for our players. I just believe that next time we will show more footballing skill, playfulness, combination, than just combativeness. We are capable of more,” Dvorník stated confidently.
The manager then addressed the recent news of his resignation. “Currently, everything is in the phase that the resignation has been submitted, but negotiations were held before and after, and we are looking for a solution, whether I could continue to function within the club’s structures or not. That will only be shown by the future. But it is definitely not the case that I am running away from Baník,” Dvorník clarified. The situation remains fluid, with discussions ongoing regarding his potential role within the organization.
