Bayern Munich Warm Up for Bergamo with Dominant Win Over Gladbach
MUNICH – FC Bayern Munich continued their march toward a potential 35th Bundesliga title, securing a comfortable 4-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday. The win, achieved without star striker Harry Kane due to a minor injury, serves as ideal preparation for their upcoming Champions League clash against Atalanta Bergamo next week.
Luis Díaz, Konrad Laimer, Jamal Musiala, and Nicolas Jackson all found the back of the net for Bayern in front of 75,000 fans at the Allianz Arena. Wael Mohya scored a late consolation goal for Gladbach, but the result was never truly in doubt after Bayern’s dominant first-half display.
Rotation and a Comfortable First Half
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany opted to rotate his squad, resting several key players with the Champions League fixture in mind. Despite the changes, Bayern quickly asserted their dominance. Díaz opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, finishing off a well-worked move started by Leon Goretzka. Laimer doubled the lead just before halftime, capitalizing on a Bayern counterattack.
“Today we played very souverainly,” said Goretzka to Sky after the match. “Of course, the last goal annoys us, because we switched off for a moment. That shouldn’t happen. Otherwise, it was very souverain.”
Musiala’s Return and a Red Card for Gladbach
The second half saw Bayern extend their lead through Musiala, who converted a penalty in the 57th minute. The spot-kick was awarded after Jackson was brought down in the box, and Gladbach’s Rocco Reitz received a red card for the foul. It marked Musiala’s first Bundesliga goal since April 4, 2025, when he scored in a 3-1 win against Augsburg.

There were some concerns for Bayern, however, surrounding captain Manuel Neuer. After returning from a calf muscle injury, Neuer was substituted at halftime as a precaution. Jonas Urbig replaced him and had a relatively quiet second half, conceding only Mohya’s late goal.
Kompany’s decision to rotate his squad allowed other players to gain valuable minutes. Jackson, in particular, impressed in Kane’s absence, demonstrating his ability to lead the line. Youngster Karl also showed promise, creating chances and ultimately assisting Jackson’s goal. Kompany also rested Michael Olise, Jonathan Tah, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Serge Gnabry, and Josip Stanisic ahead of the match against Atalanta Bergamo.
Goretzka’s Influence and a Seem Ahead
Leon Goretzka delivered a particularly strong performance, demonstrating the form that has led to continued faith from Germany national team manager Julian Nagelsmann. Goretzka’s vision and passing range were on full display, culminating in a stunning assist for Díaz’s opening goal. His performance was a testament to his ability to influence the game even when not a guaranteed starter.
Díaz proved to be Bayern’s most dangerous attacker, scoring a stunning volley for the opening goal and providing a clever assist for Laimer’s second. Karl also showed flashes of brilliance, even though he was unlucky to have a goal disallowed for offside early in the match.
Bayern’s victory solidifies their position at the top of the Bundesliga table. They now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they will face Atalanta Bergamo in the first leg of their round of 16 tie on Tuesday.
