San Antonio, Texas – A shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, following the San Antonio Spurs’ NBA game against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday evening. Police stated that a 48-year-old male fired upon another individual from a vehicle. One bullet struck the victim near the shoulder, while a second remained lodged in his body. Officers who were patrolling the area responded immediately, providing first aid before the victim was transported to a local hospital for surgery. Multiple media outlets are reporting that the victim survived the attack, though his current condition remains unknown.

Parking Lot Incident Preceded Shooting

According to reports, the shooting followed an accident in the Frost Bank Center parking lot involving the suspect. “Some witnesses did get his license plate so he couldn’t flee the scene,” a sheriff was quoted as saying by News 4 San Antonio. “The male that was shot was attempting to get to the suspect’s vehicle when an altercation occurred, and then the suspect fired two shots from the vehicle at him.”

Police Investigation Underway

The suspect was apprehended at the scene and is currently in police custody. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident. “The shooter will be charged with at least aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but charges could be elevated,” a police official stated.

The source of the weapon and the reason the suspect had it in his possession following the NBA game remain unclear at this time. The incident occurred just hours after the Spurs defeated the Detroit Pistons 121-106 at the Frost Bank Center, continuing a strong run of form for San Antonio. Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 38 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocks in the victory.

This incident casts a shadow over what has been a positive stretch for the Spurs, who have won 13 of their last 14 games and currently hold the second seed in the Western Conference with a record of 45-17. The Pistons, despite the loss, remain atop the Eastern Conference at 45-16.

The San Antonio Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting and is asking anyone with information to arrive forward.

The Spurs are scheduled to host the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night at the Frost Bank Center. It remains to be seen if the incident will impact security measures for future events at the venue.
