“It’s always nice to come back home, maybe in a slightly different role, to play against your own team and eventually win,” said Mateo Maraš after PSG’s 35-24 victory over Zagreb in Arena Zagreb.
“Emotions are mixed, but in the end I’m satisfied because we won. I think we deserved to win because we were the better team and we’re going home with two points.”he added.
You practically kicked Zagreb out of the Champions League. How do you perceive it, especially after the nice welcome and the plaque?
“I thank the Zagreb Handball Club for the nice welcome and the gesture, it’s really an honor. I’m sorry that Zagreb is in a difficult situation now, but they have potential. They have certain problems at the moment, but I believe they will learn their lessons and move forward.”
Were you surprised by Zagreb like this, with a lot of young players?
“We played a good game, practically we didn’t give them many chances. We had a solid defense and a good goalkeeper and that made the difference.”
Coach Dvoršek announced his tempo, but you imposed your rhythm.
“I think we were very good in transition. We are in a good rhythm right now and it showed on the field.”
Finally – how important are these two points to Paris?
“It’s definitely easier to breathe now. We still have tough opponents waiting for us and we’re going all the way to win the battle for the Final Four.”
