The Crotone Badminton Group asks for gyms and support: «Enormous passion, but without structures you can’t grow»
Badminton in Crotone resists, grows and asks for space. A group of enthusiasts and practitioners of the discipline have decided to break the silence and make an appeal to the sporting and civil institutions of the area, describing a reality made of sacrifices, passion and night-time outdoor training.
«Not having suitable indoor sports facilities, we are forced to train in an outdoor market area, often between midnight and four in the morning»explain from the Crotone Badminton Group, describing sessions carried out in the rain and cold in winter and in prohibitive conditions during the summer. A situation which, despite demonstrating a strong attachment to sport, «does not allow for a safe, continuous and structured development of sporting activity in our territory».
The comparison with the rest of Calabria makes the picture even more evident. «In other provinces of the Region, badminton is practiced within covered sports facilities, while in the Province of Crotone there are currently no accessible spaces dedicated to this discipline»underlines the group, which points the finger at a structural deficiency that penalizes athletes, young people and families.
The stated objective is clear: «Promote and develop badminton by involving young people, families and citizens, offering a positive sporting, educational and social opportunity for the area». For this reason the appeal is addressed to the Municipality, schools, sports institutions and federal bodies, asking for support and guidance on multiple fronts.
«We ask for the possibility of using municipal or school gyms, indications for collaborating with local sports institutions, support for the establishment or affiliation of an Amateur Sports Association and information on tenders or projects dedicated to the development of sport»explain the promoters, convinced that a collaborative network can fill the existing gap.
The Crotone Badminton Group reiterates its full availability for dialogue and discussion, hopefully «a constructive path with the institutional and media realities of the territory». A request that is not only logistical, but symbolic: to finally give space to a less visible sport, but one capable of creating community, inclusion and opportunities.
