Dozens of sanitary facilities have been damaged in the Milan Winter Olympic Village, the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera reports, writes LETA, referring to DPA.
Between mid-December and mid-January, 70 showers were damaged in three different athletes’ accommodation buildings, the newspaper told police.
Access to the newly built village was basically only possible with special passes and a QR code.
Police believe that various cutting tools were used. The newspaper reports that the incident was discovered only after damage to the water supply system was discovered.
The anti-terrorism unit of the Milan prosecutor’s office was also involved in the investigation.
Police are hoping to get answers using CCTV footage.
The two-week Winter Olympics will open on Friday.
